Jesse Rothstein

Jesse Rothstein is the Chancellor’s Professor of Public Policy and Economics and Faculty Director, California Policy Lab University of California, Berkeley. He served in the Barack Obama administration as Chief Economist at the U.S. Department of Labor and as Senior Economist with the Council of Economic Advisers, Executive Office of the President. Rothstein’s research focuses on education policy and the labor market, with a particular focus on the way that educational and labor market institutions (ranging from college admissions to unemployment insurance) influence inequality of opportunity and outcomes. He uses research evidence to inform policymaking around topics including teacher evaluation, student aid, college admissions, and school finance and governance.
